The Battle for the Bell dates back to 1905, when the Marshall Thundering Herd and the Ohio Bobcats, located merely 80 or so miles apart, met in Huntington, West Virginia. Marshall clawed out a 6-5 victory in that meeting. The Bell was first introduced in 1997 and while Ohio leads the overall series 30-19-6, Marshall has been the dominate team of late, winning the Bell in nine out of eleven games. A brief hiatus ensued when Marshall left the MAC for Conference USA in 2005, but after an unexpected meeting in the 2009 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, the two teams signed a six year contract to bring the game back. This year’s battle pits a 1-1 Marshall team against a 2-0 Ohio team with votes in the polls and its eyes on an undefeated season. (more…)

I don’t think there is anything better than watching the leaves change color in the Midwest. The colors are absolutely spectacular on the soaring trees that line every road. There is one road near my parents home in Southwest Michigan that I travel for no other reason than to view the beautiful orange, red and yellow leaves that blanket the sky above. The changes in nature surrounding me inspire me to buy cozy, versatile pieces that I can wear from the football game to the pumpkin patch. Here are a few of my favorite fall jackets for the 2012 season.

We’re lucky to have another interconference rivalry this early in the season as the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The teams first met in 1894 when the Cyclones won 16-8. Iowa has pretty well controlled the series, leading 39-20 all time. They started playing for the Cy-Hawk Trophy in 1977 and it’s currently in possession of the Cyclones. Here’s what to wear if you’ll be heading to the game in Iowa City this Saturday or just watching on television. (more…)

Who doesn’t love a little bit of eye candy? With punchy colors, these pieces will keep you on trend. The style pendulum is swinging back towards gold and I am a fan! I own a pair of the starfish earrings and I had to include them in this collection because they stand above the rest that I have found. The rest of the pieces I would certainly love to own…hint, hint Mr. GLP.

I don’t know about you, but this time of year inspires me to shop! Heading back to school was always an occasion to grab some new duds in my family. Even though I will not be returning to school this year, I still love a little retail therapy. (more…)

For a good part of the summer, baseball has the center stage. No other major sports are taking place for a couple of months and there’s nothing quite like getting out to the diamond to enjoy America’s pastime. Of course you need to be properly attired for these visits and well nothing about wearing a jersey says properly attired. Should you find yourself lucky enough to be in a luxury box in most instances you’ll be perfectly fine swapping out the shorts for a pair of pants. Here’s a rundown for each team located near the shores of the Great Lakes. (more…)
In the prep world board shorts tend to get a bad rap. While it is true there are some monstrosities out there that fall beneath the knees, have umpteen million pockets and look like they jumped out of a tattoo shop, there are plenty of options that fall in the prep spectrum. The key is finding a pair with a 9″ inseam or less and a traditional design like stripes, plaid or a nautical print. (more…)
