I recently noticed that you are in the initial stages of developing or have just recently launched a new apparel brand catering towards the young prep market. Congratulations on taking the plunge into owning your own business, it is truly part of the American dream. However, before you get excited and let images of swimming in pools of money like Scrooge McDuck run rampant in your mind, let me give you some friendly advice. (more…)
And then there were two. In this case David couldn’t quite slay Goliath and the one seeds won out. Let’s pause for a moment and congratulate Luxley & Bernard and Loggerhead Apparel on a couple great runs. Now it’s down to the finals, a match up of behemoths to determine the 2012 Brand Bracket champion. Last round Brooks Brothers and Kiel James Patrick teamed up to come out on top but now they must face each other. Voting will be open for four days to determine the champion. The poll will close at 11:59 PM EST on Monday, April 2, the champion will be announced and then we’ll all gather round and sing “One Shining Moment”.
With seemingly everyone wearing bow ties these days (not that that is a bad thing) it’s becoming more difficult to stand out from the crowd. Now you could adorn your neck with neon abomination or something else really out there and stand out, but the key to looking good but being a little different is in the subtle details. Take, for instance, if you customized your bow tie so that very few people had the exact same one as you. Ellis G Designs allows you to do just that by monogramming your initials or fraternity letters onto one of it’s handmade bow ties ($35). (more…)
After a long winter of chilly temperatures it’s officially time to ditch the socks and bring out the boat shoes. While it’s not quite time to start donning the seersucker as well, it can’t hurt to be prepared for the start of the season. Now imagine if you combined the two, boat shoes and seersucker. What you’d come up with is the perfect combination for spring and Sperry Top-Sider has you covered with the Authentic Original 2-Eye Seersucker Boat Shoe ($85). (more…)
It’s always interesting to see the results of a partnership between two brands. Elements of both brands are fused together to make something that feels familiar but is still a little different. Milly by Michelle Smith is one of the hottest brands in womenswear right now and recently partnered with Sperry Top-Sider to create a special collection. The complete line has a variety of wedges, sneakers and boat shoes, but the best looking ones are the Authentic Original 2-Eye Boat Shoe by Milly ($125). (more…)
Basketball coaches have a rich history with the colored blazer. These days it’s usually donned only for special occasions, like a game versus an in-state rival. Perhaps the most famous example is Bruce Pearl, who donned his trademark bright orange blazer versus Kentucky and Vanderbilt. What you may not realize is that this was an homage to former Tennessee coach Ray Mears, who sported his own trademark orange blazer in the 60’s and 70’s. The one problem I’ve found is that it is nearly impossible to find any colored blazers out there. I literally spent hours last week trying to find an orange one for this post and came up empty, so if you know of a place to find one be sure to leave it in the comments (update: while researching when Bruce Weber wore his orange blazer I found the exact blazer in less than a minute. Not sure how I missed it before). Now let’s take a look at the spectrum of coaches and the colored blazer. (more…)
Ever since I first saw Caroline at Back Down South tweeting about a brand called Chubbies, I’ve been hooked. There’s nothing short about most shorts today and far too many more closely resemble a pair of capris. Chubbies is looking to change that and instill an awesome sense of rad into the shorts game. They’re short, they’re high quality, they’re American made and they’re affordable ($49.50). (more…)
