A couple weeks ago a brand new Midwestern brand made its much-anticipated debut. I had been excited about the possibilities ever since I first heard about Chicago Belt Co. Living in the Midwest we’ve come to rely on brands based mostly in the south and the east so it is refreshing to have our own prep staple. Rob, the founder of Chicago Belt Co., sent some product over for me to review, including some great looking croakies and coozies and the perfect belt for Great Lakes Prep, the Great Lakes Belt ($45).
If Great Lakes Prep was in the business of selling ribbon belts, this would be my first design. The Great Lakes are an excellent representation of our region and are instantly recognizable. The navy of the cotton webbing and the green of the ribbon do well to emphasize the Great Lakes pattern. The first thing I noticed about this belt when I took it out of its packaging was how sturdy it was. You can instantly tell they aren’t skimping on quality with the thick webbing and robust D-rings. These belts are made to last and take on whatever you throw at them.
The initial launch has provided a great selection of Midwest-centric belts and other items and I’m eagerly anticipating what the future holds for this brand. Head over to the web site and pick one up now and also check the brand out on its blog and Tumblr.
